Final Fantasy XV was released two years ago, but many players have been hoping that the ambitious production would be supported in years to come. It looks like Square Enix has decided to ultimately crush that dream and yesterday announced that three of the four previously announced DLC character episodes (
Episode Aranea, Episode Lunafreya, and
Episode Noctis) have been officially cancelled.
Instead, Square is going to launch only one extra episode,
Episode Ardyn, set to release in March 2019, as an animated short will be released prior to the episode. According to Square, the cancellation is the direct result of Luminous Productions' recent refocusing, which cost the company a hefty $33 million. That's not all, as Square Enix has confirmed that the PC production has been cancelled, meaning that we won’t be getting anything new on Steam (apart from the
Ardyn DLC).
What's even worse, it was also revealed that Hajime Tabata, the director of
Final Fantasy XV, has left Square Enix to pursue his own business. All in all, things are not looking great for
Final Fantasy XV, as the publisher is clearly ending the post-launch support for the acclaimed title. We all know that Square Enix really wanted
XV to do well with 7.7 million sales to date, but is seems like it's just not enough.
