Yesterday, during Nintendo's Direct presentation, we found out that Square Enix was planning on releasing a bunch of Final Fantasy games on Nintendo's handhel hybrid.
The titles that were shown included
Final Fantasy VII,
Final Fantasy IX,
Final Fantasy X and
Final Fantasy X-2,
Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age,
Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!,
World of Final Fantasy Maxima, and
Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition.
While all of these games were announced during the Nintendo Direct presentation, they will not be releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch as some of these titles are also coming out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
With the exception of
Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition,
Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!, and
World of Final Fantasy Maxima, all the announced
Final Fantasy titles will be coming out in 2019—although Square Enix has yet to reveal the official release dates for each of the games.
Earlier this week we found out that
Square Enix was remastering Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, so there is a strong possibility that Square Enix may be wanting to port all the library of Final Fantasy titles to current gen consoles, including the classic NES and Super NES Final Fantasy games. All we can do now is wait for more announcements, but this is certainly exciting news for fans of the Final Fantasy series.
