Netflix Geeked Week continues to unleash exciting new details on the streamer's upcoming projects and the special fan event has provided a first look at The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, an animated film based on one of author Andrzej Sapkowski's original stories, A Little Sacrifice.

The animated film will see Witcher video game voice actor Doug Cockle step into the role of Geralt of Riva. In a press statement released by Netflix, Cockle stated, "I am super excited to announce my return to the world of The Witcher voicing Geralt of Rivia once again. I’m thrilled to be able to share this next chapter of the White Wolf’s journey with fans of the Witcher universe. Mire taedh aen stráede!"

The rest of the cast is comprised of actors from Netflix's live-action Witcher TV series.  This leads us to believe that it was probably intended for Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Justice League) to voice the character in the film but he's since departed the series after three seasons.

Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Cavill in season 4 of The Witcher.

Anya Chalotra (Sherword, Wanderlust) and Joey Batey (Knightfall, The White Queen) will be reprising their roles as Yennefer of Vengerberg and Jaskier, respectively.  Additionally, Christina Wren (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) will be voicing a new character, Essi Daven.

Sirens of the Deep was created by The Witcher series writers Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, with the showrunner of the live-action series, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, serving as a producer.

Kang Hei Chul (Lookism,  The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) is directing while South Korea-based Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Young Justice: Phantoms) is handling the animation.

Netflix has stated that the animated film is slated to take place between  Episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher Season 1. That's an interesting approach for the film given how the show changes the relationship between Geralt, Yennefer and Jasier between seasons 2 and 3.

The official synopsis for the series reads, "Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into an all-out war."

There's no precise release date for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep but Netflix says to expect the show to be released in late-2024.
