Payday 2 released back in 2013 and Starbreeze Studios has had a rocky while since. The studio debuted
Overkill's The Walking Dead last November. That game proving to be a failure caused significant financial difficulties for Starbreeze — not to mention the acrimonious exit of boss Bo Andersson.
Nonetheless, the Swedish developer has prevailed and revealed that they will be continuing the popular first-person shooter franchise. The
Payday games allow players to team up with up to three others, meticulously plan, and then execute a heist.
Starbreeze said in
an official blog post that it expects new publishing agreements in 2020 and a significantly improved cash flow from 2022 on. This means that they're able to put together a third
Payday game. It's said that
Payday 3 will debut sometime between 2022 and 2023 for the PC as well as the next generation of consoles: the PlayStation 5 and Xbox's Project Scarlett.
By the time
Payday 3 releases, it will have been a decade since the last instalment's debut. Thankfully,
Payday 2 was a hit both financially and critically and is still remembered fondly to this day. We can only hope, for the sake of Starbreeze, the
Payday 3 will prove to be as much of a success.
