The online shooter genre is a crowded field. Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and Epic's Fortnite are both huge, Overwatch is Blizzard's biggest hit since World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 became the biggest console launch of the last year and let's not forget about EA's offerings, such as Battlefield or Battlefront. Ubisoft also have their own online shooter and it looks like Siege won't stop anytime soon.
Ubisoft announced today that Rainbow Six: Siege has passed 30 million players. Ubisoft Montreal's game launched in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Siege wasn’t an immediate success when it launched, but Ubisoft’s dedication to supporting the title with content (including Operation Chimera which gave the players a chance to fight zombies) has given it a long and profitable life.
“On behalf of the entire team, we wanted to thank every member of our diverse, global community for their support of our game,” said Alexandre Remy, brand director of Rainbow: Six Siege, said in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “Our players are the most valuable element to our game. Over the last three years we have endeavored to create a solid community built on transparency as we grow and evolve the ever-expanding world of Rainbow: Six Siege. We are so tremendously honored to achieve this milestone, and we will continue to do everything we can to earn each and every new person that decides to play.”
Currently in Year 3,
Rainbow Six Siege players have seen regular content updates with the release of
Operation Chimera, brought two new operators (Finka and Lion), balancing and quality of life updates. Check out the video Ubisoft released to celebrate the new milestone below:
The Siege is a brand-new style of gameplay embracing the reality of counter-terrorist operatives across the world: intense and asymmetrical close-quarters combat between attackers and defenders. As a defender, you will have the means to transform your environment into strongholds to prevent the attackers from breaching. As an attacker, you will have many planning options to face this challenge and defuse these situations.
