Unity and Google Cloud have announced the result of their collaboration to create a new matchmaking technology for developers called Open Match.

Matchmaking is the system that video games integrate to find players for online games using different criteria to join users. This criteria tends to look for equal-level games, so they focus on measuring and evaluating the skill and experience of players in fighting titles, for example. This way, the games are more balanced and the frustration of the users is reduced.

Open Match proposes a scalable system that can be used in any platform and in all types of projects, with extensive customization options for developers. The objective is to give development teams a tool with which they can focus on how to design the logic of joining players instead of the technical problems that this entails.

Open Match will be an open source system, fully compatible with any console or handheld. From now on, the Unity engine will focus its matchmaking system on the use of Open Match.
