UNCHARTED Movie Still Happening; Joe Carnahan Teases "Really, Really Good" Opening Scene
Despite the fact that Uncharted recently lost its release date, the movie is definitely still happening, and it sounds like it could be something really special. Hit the jump for details...
Uncharted may have been removed from Sony's release schedule, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's never going to happen. Yes, the movie has been in development for what feels like forever, but Joe Carnahan (The Grey) is now writing a new version of the screenplay, and Deadline reports that studio insiders say that they're, "loving what they’re seeing" and that, "Joe has a completely fresh take that feels big." That's good to hear, and a sign perhaps that the project is in the right hands.
It's still possible that Carnahan could direct Uncharted, but his current priority is Bad Boys for Life. That's not set to be released until 2018, so chances are that if he does helm the adaptation, it won't be released until 2019. We've been waiting long enough as it is, so Sony may move forward with another filmmaker in order to get it here sooner. Carnahan seems happy with how it's coming along as he said this weekend: "The opening scene for UNCHARTED...at least in script form, is really, REALLY GOOD."
