Of all the announcements that you'll probably see being made today, this one is likely to be the most surprising — as Nintendo has decided to revive the Pokémon Snap series, that wasn't really a series until now, by revealing that a brand-new title is currently being in development.
New Pokémon Snap, as Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have named this new title, is being developed by Bandai Namco and is being released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title — so don't worry, this isn't a mobile game like many thought it would be if the developers decided to bring the series back.
The original Pokémon Snap was actually a one-off, which is why the series was practically inexistent until today that a new game has been announced, that released for the Nintendo 64 in March of 1999. After the game was released, fans of the Pokémon series have been clamouring for Nintendo and Game Freak to make another game; to no avail, unfortunately.
For those of you unaware of the main gameplay mechanics in Pokémon Snap, it is basically a first-person rail shooter game in which players have to take photos of Pokémon creatures in various environments — which may sound rather dull at first, but the game is actually quite the entertaining experience.
Nintendo doesn't really provide in-depth details about New Pokémon Snap, but the description on the game's official website reveals that it is inspired by Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64, and that players will also be able to take photos of their favourite Pokémon creatures in deserts, jungles, and other locations from the Pokémon world.
Unfortunately, the developers have not given us an estimated release date for the recently announced title, so we will have to keep waiting for more official information to be revealed in the future. In the meantime, be sure to check out the announcement trailer for New Pokémon Snap down below.
