Today Nintendo and Game Freak finally streamed the new Pokémon Direct that focused, in its entirety, on the new entry in the long-running Pocket Monster series,
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield, and there are a lot of things here for fans to be excited about.
Right off the bat, we are treated to a new trailer for
Pokémon Sword & Shield, which gives us an even better idea about how big the new region will be; taking the concept of an open world a little bit more seriously than previous entries in the series.
In the Galar region, players will encounter Wild areas, where they'll find most of the Pokémon in this new region. What's interesting is that, depending on certain conditions like weather or location, players will find different Pokémon that they wouldn't find otherwise; making exploring the Galar region a completely different experience every time.
For the first time ever in a
Pokémon core title, players will be able to freely move the camera to search for items and Pokémon that may be hiding in the wild — which is something that will definitely come in handy when out and about trying to catch 'em all.
The Galar region will also make Pokémon grow in size, making the Pokémon battles even more impressive, thanks to a strange phenomenon called Dynamax. Not only will Pokémon grow, but their power will also increase, although there is a caveat: Dynamax can only be used once per battle, and only last three turns.
Connectivity with other players has been a
Pokémon series staple since the very first game, but the rules have been changed a little bit this time around, as
Pokémon Sword & Shield will allow players to team up to fight against Dynamax versions of wild Pokémon. Be mindful of your strategy, though, since only one of the four players can use Dynamax on their Pokémon.
This Pokémon Direct really gave fans of the series a lot to look forward to, and players will finally be able to get their hands on this new Pokémon series core title when
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield release, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, on the
15th of November.
Check it out:
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
