Game Freak Character Designer Ken Sugimori took inspiration from Godzilla when designing a character for the very first Pokémon games; a character that didn't make it into the final game.

Recently, concept art for the original Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green, and Pokémon Blue has resurfaced, and it gives us a good look at two creatures that didn't end up making the cut in the final versions of the game: Godzillante and Gorillaimo.

Designed by Pokémon Lead Designer Ken Sugimori, Godzillante — much like the name very appripriately suggests — was designed based on Godzilla, although this particular Pokémon was never meant to be in the game; it was more of a reference that helped illustrate how the game's mechanics would work.

Gorillaimo, on the other hand, is based on King Kong, and Sugimori most definitely drew inspiration from the King Kong vs Godzilla film released in 1962; most definitely an appropriate movie to draw inspiration from, considering that Pokémon is a game about Pocket Monsters who battle each other.

Thanks to DeviantArt user the-fake-dexter, we now have an updated version of what both Godzillante and Gorillaimo would look like if they had been included in the final versions of the iconic Pokémon games Red, Green, and Blue.
