Last week, Nintendo released a demo for their upcoming
Yoshi's Crafted World — made available almost immediately after this month's Nintendo Direct — so that players could test the game for themselves as they wait for the game's official launch on the
29th of March.
Yoshi's Crafted World is a game developed by Good-Feel, who have managed to give this new title in the
Yoshi spin-off series a very distinct look that makes the game look like a diorama made out of cardboard; a concept the
Yoshi series has been toying with for a while, now.
One of the things that makes
Yoshi's Crafted World special is the fact that it is one of Nintendo's first games to have been developed using Unreal Engine 4. Nintendo has usually used their own developing software in the past but the real question is: how well does it run?
Digital Foundry has made an analysis video of
Yoshi's Crafted World by using the recently released demo, as well as an expanded version of it, and they found out that Good-Feel have actually done a good job developing the game, but it isn't perfect.
According to Digital Foundry's analysis,
Yoshi's Crafted World aims for a stable 60fps at all times, although some sacrficies needed to be made; being rendering resolution the most noticeable. Often times, pixel count can be an issue that can make the graphics look somewhat rough around the edges.
Pixel count making the game look jaggy isn't a problem when playing in portable mode, but that's mainly because the game looks blurrier than it does in docked mode. According to Digital Foundry, these sacrifices made to
Yoshi's Crafted World were the right way to go, especially since the game, for a platformer, needs to run flawlessly; a test that Good-Feel
passed with flying colours.
