For many of us, the first time hearing Mario's voice was when we played
Super Mario 64 for the first time back in the mid 90s— being greeted with the now-iconic "It's a-me, Mario!" phrase. The person behind the iconic voice is Charles Martinet, who has been voicing Mario ever since.
The voice of Nintendo's iconic character, and company mascot, has become such a huge part of the character that it's hard for us to imagine any voice actor other than Martinet as the Italian plumber; who not only voices Mario, mind you, but is also the one who voices Luigi, Wario, and the inexplicably revered Waluigi.
Recently, Charles Martinet was awarded an official certificate by the Guinness World Records for most video game voiceover performances as the same character; which, as you may have already guessed, is Nintendo's very own Mario.
The news was shared by Martinet on his
Twitter account, who revealed that he received the award on the 7th of December with the release of
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as his hundreth time voicing Mario; who he has been voicing in video games for 22 years, since
Super Mario 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 in June of 1996.
