Pokémon Detective Pikachu, in many ways, is the best movie based on a video game of all time. With that in mind, it makes sense the film has toppled Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider to become the highest grossing video game film in North America.
Since release, the movie has managed to earn over $131.65 Million USD at the North American box office. From our perspective, Pokémon Detective Pikachu is the film to break the video game curse.
It simply means that if this curse is truly broken, we should now see a plethora of successful video game-based films in the near and distant future.
As it stands right now, Legendary is looking into creating a sequel but we’re not sure when it’ll be ready for showing at the worldwide box office. Chances are, fans might have to wait until 2021 or beyond for a new Pokémon Detective Pikachu film.
So far, the movie is close to topping $400 million USD at the worldwide box office. This is great news because it took around $150 million USD to bring the experience to life. We suspect a sequel would cost more, as they always do.
