This 1998Pokémon Pikachu Illustrator Promo Card (pictured below) sold for $195K USD last week at a New York auction house.  The card is 1 of 39 ever produced and was only made available in Japan, via an illustration contest from a Japanese magazine called CoroCoro Comic.

This particular card is thought to be the most rare Pokemon card in existence.  Of the 39 produced cards, it's unknown how many have actually survived.  Given its rarity, it's also one of the mostly highly counterfeit cards in the Pokemon trading card circuit. There are only 10, certified and verified cards currently registered.

The last Pikachu Illustrator Promo Card was sold in for $54K in 2013.
