The Nintendo Switch 2 could be revealed next week, according to a new rumor that has surfaced online. Social media user Average Lucia Fanatic, who has previously leaked details about the PS5 Pro and the Nintendo Alarmo, both of which proved to be accurate, now claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed next week on January 17, 2025.
He also claims that the launch date for the highly anticipated console will be March 3rd. This would be the exact date eight years after the original Nintendo Switch was released (March 3, 2017).
The reveal date is in line with Nintendo's previous statement. The game company previously said it would reveal the Nintendo Switch successor before the end of its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. There have been numerous rumors pointing towards a reveal in January.
The rumored release date is a bit more fluid, however. While Average Lucia Fanatic claims the console will launch in March, peripheral and accessory maker Genki, which has been at CES showing off what it claims to be an accurate replica of the Nintendo Switch, reportedly told journalists that the Switch 2 will be released in April.
Meanwhile, GamesIndustry.biz's Chris Dring said months ago on a podcast that multiple developers have been told not to expect Nintendo’s next console to launch before April 2025.
“No developer I’ve spoken to expects it to be launching this financial year,” Dring said back in August. “In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the [current] financial year. A bunch of people I spoke to hope it’s out in April or May time, still early next year, not late."
So there appears to be some discrepancy between the rumored release dates, which is why you should take everything with a grain fo salt. At this point, I firmly believe that the Nintendo Switch will be revealed soon. There's just too much leaking online for Nintendo not to officially announce something.
In addition to the dates, Average Lucia Fanatic also listed rumored launch titles for the Switch 2. Mario Kart 9, which has yet to be announced, Red Dead Redemption 2, and an announcement trailer for a 3D Mario were specifically mentioned. Again, there's no proof of any of this, but given the popularity of the Mario Kart franchise, it would make sense to release a new game in the kart racing franchise alongside the launch of a new console.
There have also been rumors that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond may even be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is easily one of this year's most anticipated gaming announcements. Although rumors and speculation are fun to discuss, it's important to take everything with a grain of salt until we get official word from Nintendo.
