Nintendo has returned to the forefront of video game discussions with the successful launch of the Switch hybrid console.  Launched in March 2017, the Switch went on to become the fastest-selling console of all time in Japan and the United States (over a 9-month period), selling 14 million consoles worldwide.

The tag-team of the Switch launch day title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the Fall 2017 release of Super Mario Odyssey- which has sold over 10 million copies as of March 2018, propelled the Switch to unprecedented sales.  It seems Mario Odyssey's official Twitter account has been celebrating the game's success by releasing some never-before-seen concept art to the public.  To take a look, click the next button below.

Do you own a Switch?  How does it compare to gaming on the PS4 and/or Xbox One? Many owners of the hybrid console state that the ability to pick up and take their games with them is a revolutionary function that they never knew they needed.

THE LOCHLADIES

The Super Mario Odyssey Twitter account revealed that the Lochladies were designed with an underwater fashionista aesthetic in mind.  They are residents of Lake Lamode and known for their strength and flexibility.

The Lake Kingdom

The Lake Kingdom is the 4th or 5th location that can be visited in the game.  Pictured above is Lake Lamode, a large underwater plaza.  Architecturally, the region is inspired by Greece, however, its residents were named using Scottish vernacular.

Topper

The Broodals are evil, anthropomorphic rabbits that serve as the wedding planners for Bowser as he attempts to forcibly marry Princess Peach.  The above Broodal is named Topper.

The Broodals appear to be inspired by the Koopalings or Koopa Troopa, recurring enemies during the SNES-era of Mario game during the '80s.

Cascade Kingdom

The Cascade Kingdom and the explorable area, Fossil Falls, is the second is visited in Super Mario Odyssey.  It's a dinosaur-themed region and one of the few areas with no known inhabitants- likely due to the T-Rexes!

Goomba

What's a Mario game without a few Goombas?  One of the most iconic characters in the Mario franchise, the characters were actually a late addition to Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Their simplistic design was due to the fact that the designers had very little resources left and still needed to add an easy-to-defeat enemy.

Tiara

Cappy's little sister, she's a  Bonneter of the Cap Kingdom. She's captured by Bowser to serve as Princess Peach's crown during their forced wedding, an action that prompts Cappy to team up with Mario.

Rango

The tallest of the Broodals, Rango is described as a master user of the boomerang trampoline hat.  Odyssey fans have likened the character to a cross between Goofy and Kung Lao from Mortal Kombat.

Odyssey AirShip Interior

The Odyssey is Mario's airship and main method of transportation in the game.  It's found in the Cascade Kingdom and Cappy reveals that its an old Cap Kingdom vehicle.  It's fixed and returned to service as Mario and Cappy find Power Moons.

Sand Kingdom's Desert Town Layout

The Sand Kingdom is the third area players visit in the game and the point in which many gamers say Super Mario Odyssey really takes off.  The location is clearly inspired by old Mexico towns.

Chinchos

The Chinchos are enemies encountered in the Sand Kingdom.  The undead enemies are former Tostarenans- a somewhat funny concept at the Tostarenans are skeleton creatures, making the Chinchos undead skeletons.  They appear only at night and rise up out of the ground.

Mario's Sand Kingdom Outfit

Mario can wear many different outfits in the Sand Kingdom but a fan favorite is his poncho and sombrero, which were heavily featured in early promotional marketing.   They can both be purchased from the Crazy Cap Shop for 5 and 10 purple coins, respectively.

Sand Kingdom

A wider shot of the Sand Kingdom, overlooking the town of  Tostarena, the director of Super Mario Odyssey, Kenta Motokura revealed that he actively sought a Mexico-based location due to a previous vacation trip.  One of the earliest pieces of concept art produced for the game, the poncho and sombrero are slightly different from the final product in the game.
