Back in September, Nintendo revealed that they were porting
New Super Mario Bros. U to the Nintendo Switch. This version of the Wii U game was getting the same
Deluxe treatment that
Mario Kart 8 got when ported to Nintendo's handheld hybrid console.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is pretty much the very same game that was released on the Wii U back in 2012, with the exception that this time one of the Toads has been replaced with Toadette—who can, oddly enough, turn into Princess Peach with the help of a power-up.
The game will also be including
New Super Luigi U, which is an expansion of sorts that reimagines every single level in the original game and makes them more difficult...much, much more difficult; which is actually a great way to add some replay value to the game.
While
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe won't be out for a whole month, we have new information about the game as it becomes available for pre-loading in the UK. According to the listing on the Nintendo Switch eShop, the game will take up 2.5GB of space, which makes the new version about 100MB larger than the original; keeping in mind that this is 100MB larger than the original file size for both
New Super Mario Bros. U and
New Super Luigi U together.
The Nintendo Switch eShop also reveals that
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will be available in Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, and Chinese—and will be supporting the new Cloud Save Data feature from the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Take on two family-friendly, side-scrolling adventures with up to three friends* as you try to save the Mushroom Kingdom. Includes the New Super Mario Bros. U and harder, faster New Super Luigi U games—both of which include Nabbit and Toadette as playable characters!
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 11th of January.
