Back in January, Nintendo announced that their new
Nintendo Switch Online service was set to come out in September of this year, although they didn't really give us too many details about it.
It wouldn't be until May of this year that
Nintendo shared some new information regarding the service, although they were still not being as straight forward as consumers would've liked, revealing important stuff like the pricing and some interesting features, but failing to get players excited for the games they claimed they would include.
Then come September and
we still don't have any news regarding the Nintendo Switch Online Service, which is supposed to come out at one point this month, which is somewhat frustrating as there is still no real reason to pay for the service unless players want to keep playing their games online.
The people over at Nintendo Life have reported that new information about the service surfaced online, coming from a tweet from Japanese user
@MIN428, who noticed that the backside of the game case for
Hakuoki Shinkai: Fuukaden (a game that was released just yesterday in Japan) reads: "
Compatible with Save Data Cloud Backup of Nintendo Switch Online".
The reason why this is interesting is because this could mean that the Save Data Cloud Backup is only available for some games, but not all. Nintendo Life was able to get in touch with an anonymous source who claims that developers should tick a box when submitting games to Nintendo in order to allow the company to implement Cloud Backup to their games.
If the source is to be believed, this seems to be more of a formality on Nintendo's behalf rather than a rule, so they give developers the choice to allow their games to be compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud Backup or not, but we won't know for sure until Nintendo addresses this in the coming weeks.
