The good news for Nintendo keep coming, as the company recently announced that they have managed to sell over 30 million Nintendo Switch units since the console's launch on the 3rd of March in 2017; setting a new record for the handheld hybrid console.
As per Nintendo's announcement, the Nintendo Switch has sold 32.27 million units — as of the 31st of December of 2018 — while software sales for Nintendo's handheld hybrid console managed to reach an impressive 163.61 million units.
The Nintendo Switch has managed to keep that momentum going pretty much since its release, to the point of becoming the
best-selling video game console during last year's Cyber Monday; taking the third place of sought out items during the beginning of Christmas shopping season — losing out to Fingerlings and L.O.L Surprise.
The success of titles like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey,
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee!, and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have definitely helped Nintendo reach these milestones; with
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee! and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate almost singlehandedly turning in the most profit for Nintendo in 2018.
Nintendo still has to reveale how close they are to their 20 million Nintendo Switch console sales goal they set for their 2018 fiscal year but, judging by the number of consoles they've been managing to sell since the Switch's launch, their goal seems more likely than not. Regardless, Nintendo has had a great couple of years; especially after the
commercial flop that was the Wii U.
