Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is arguably the most hyped up title to come out for the Nintendo Switch; and for good reason. The game is gathering every fighter that has ever been in a
Super Smash Bros. title before, making it the biggest crossover fighting game in history.
Upon release,
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was reported to have sold 1.3 million copies in Japan, according to a preliminar sales report by Famitsu. Those numbers, however, were not enough to estimate worldwide sales; although the game managing to sell 1.3 million copies within days after its release is still very impressive.
Recently, President of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa has briefly talked about
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, revealing that the game actually managed to sell a smashing 5 million copies globally within its first week since release — while also adding that the Nintendo Switch that has seen the fastest software sales in the company's history.
Furukawa's statements agree with some of the recent reports about worldwide sales for
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee!; a game that also managed to
globally sell an impressive 3 million copies in only one week after it launched.
Pokémon and
Super Smash Bros. are two of Nintendo's most profitable IPs and, while sales like these are to be expected, it is still quite impressive that both have managed to sell as well as they have.
Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER!
