Nintendo has done a lot of things right with their handheld hybrid console since the Switch's launch in March of 2017, but there is one thing that they have not been able to deliver quite just yet: a proper voice chat feature.
When Nintendo announced their Nintendo Switch Online service, players where hopeful that this new service would finally be providing them with a proper voice chat for their online titles but Nintendo, once again, ignored fan requests and went with a mobile app that allows players to communicate using their mobile devices: a decision that most players condemn Nintendo for.
Vivox, the same company that gave Epic Games' Fortnite a built-in voice chat feature on the Nintendo Switch, has recently announced that they will be offering third-party developers a software development kit that allows them to implement voice chat to their games.
As reported by IGN, Hi-Rez will be bringing Vivox to the Nitnendo Switch version of Paladins in an upcoming software update for the Nintendo Switch, coupled with the implementation of full cross-play; Hi-Rez's Smite — for the Nintendo Switch — reportedly getting Vivox as well.
This is great news for Nintendo Switch owners who have been clamouring for a proper voice chat feature since the console was released. Hopefully Nintendo learns from their mistakes and decide to take a similar approach and finally implement a proper voice chat that doesn't force players to download the mobile app.
