Super Mario 3D All-Stars was rumoured months before Nintendo officially announced it. Rumours even suggested that this collection would included remastered versions of every title in the 3D Super Mario Bros. series, so fans were actually pretty excited way before the announcement was made.

Nintendo then revealed that this wasn't quite the case, since Super Mario Galaxy 2 was not among the games included in the collection, and the games were not the kind of remaster that rumours had players believe; they got a bump in resolution, sure, but it still wasn't what players expected.

To add insult to injury, Nintendo also revealed that that Super Mario 3D All-Stars would only be available for a limited time, and that players had until the 31st of March of next year to purchase the game either digitally or physically, which is a decision made by Nintendo that is still raising some eye brows.

In spite of the above, the game has actually been selling unsurprisingly well — because, well, it is still a Super Mario Bros. game — to the point it even managed to dethrone Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' MARVEL's Avengers in the United Kingdom.

That same week, it was also revealed that Super Mario 3D All-Stars was able to become the third biggest launch of 2020 in the United Kingdom, behind Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II and Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is quite the feat in and of itself.

Information shared by GamesIndustry.biz has now revealed that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has now managed to do the impossible, by becoming the biggest digital launch for any Super Mario Bros. game to release for the Nintendo Switch.

That's right, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has managed to have a bigger digital launch than the critically acclaimed Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Maker 2, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe — with over a very impressive 1.8 million digital units sold. Our hats are off to you, Nintendo.

Three Mario adventures in one collection jumps on to Nintendo Switch! With HD visuals, take Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy on the go in Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The collection arrives September 18 as a limited release until the end of March 2021.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is available for the Nintendo Switch, for a limited time, until the 31st of March, 2021.
