Earlier on Thursday, Nintendo released their financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending March of 2021, revealing that the relatively recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars has been doing pretty great since it was released.
According to Nintendo's report, Super Mario 3D All-Stars was able to sell a staggering 5.1 million copies in just a little under two weeks since its launch on the 18th of September until the 30th of September, which is when the second quarter of this fiscal year ended.
These 5.21 million copies were sold in Japan, North America, and Europe, although it is worth mentioning that sell-through within the first 4 weeks after the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars amounts to over 3.5 million units, which is still quite the impressive feat for the Super Mario Bros. collection.
Just in case the terminology may be a tad confusing, sell-thorugh is the number of copies that ended up being purchased by the consumer, while 5.21 million referse to the number of Super Mario 3D All-Stars copies that Nintendo sold to retailers; including digital sales and bundles.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars, for those who may not be aware, is a collection that includes slightly enhanced versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy — which launched mid-September, and has been ridiculously well-received by fans of the long-running Super Mario Bros. series.
In fact, it had already been reported that Super Mario 3D All-Stars had managed to become Nintendo's biggest digital launch for a game in the Super Mario Bros. series on the Nintendo Switch, and was also able to become the third biggest launch of 2020 in the United Kingdom.
Unfortunately, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is only a limited release, and Nintendo has revealed that the collection will only be available until Wednesdy the 31st of March, 2021. Hopefully this will make them change their mind, although those sales numbers are actually proving that limited releases are viable. Quite the conundrum.
Three Mario adventures in one collection jumps on to Nintendo Switch! With HD visuals, take Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy on the go in Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The collection arrives September 18 as a limited release until the end of March 2021.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is available for the Nintendo Switch, for a limited time, until the 31st of March, 2021.
