According to information revealed by YouTuber Nate the Hate, during a recent podcast dedicated to Nintendo Direct presentations, it apears that the rumoured Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary game has been delayed, and will no longer be releasing for the series' anniversary.
Nathe the Hate has accurately predicted Nintendo Direct presentations in the past, so it does really seem like his sources are quite reliable, although we still encourage you to consider the following information as nothing more than a rumour. With that said, let's get right into it.
"I think now it's going to be positioned more as a holiday game than as they had originally planned." I believe the original plan was that the 3D collection was going to come out in September, had these games been announced in June… then we probably would have had 3D World Deluxe follow it in either October of maybe even early November. Now that’s completely scrapped," revealed Nate the Hate on his podcast.
Interestingly enough, the insider reveals that the announcement was initially expected to be made in June — which would've been the perfect time to announce it had this year's E3 not been cancelled. Nintendo has since not released a single Direct presentation showcasing titles by first-party developers.
What's even more interesting is that the source also seems to confirm that, besides the four rumoured 3D Super Mario Bros. titles, Nintendo would have also considered to release a deluxe edition of Super Mario 3D World — which isn't really surprising considering that the almost all of Nintendo's lineup of games that released for the failed Wii U have been released/announced for the Nintendo Switch.
Furthermore, this Super Mario 3D World Deluxe could possibly be bundled with a special Nintendo Switch console, and it will probably released shortly after the Super Mario 35th Anniversary Collection remasters become available.
"Then we're potentially looking at 3D collection either being early October… or the 3D collection is going to come out in November and be positioned as a prime holiday title, with a Mario-themed console, dock and all of that. Then I think you’re going to see 3D World Deluxe get delayed out of the 35th anniversary party and it’s going to come out in January 2021," the insider explained.
We still have no idea whether this alleged Super Mario 35th Anniversary Collection is real or not, and Nintendo has barely shared information regarding first-party titles this year. Paper Mario: The Origami King became a reality, so it is very pausible that Nintendo's plans to announce the collection were affected by the pandemic. Just release the long-awaited Direct, Nintendo.
