During this month's Nintendo Direct, the developer had fans surprised over the announcement that they were working on a re-imagining of
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening; one of the very early titles in
The Legend of Zelda series, as well as one of the most fondly remembered.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was initially released for the Game Boy back in 1993, becoming the first game in the series to have been developed for a portable console. Link's Awakening is also the fourth game in the long-running series, as well as a direct sequel to the acclaimed
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Some new information regarding
Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch seems to suggest that this re-imagined version could feature multiplayer gameplay; a feature that has been present in pretty much every first-party title since the Switch's launch.
This new information actually comes from the official
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening website, where under the Number of Players category reads "To be determined". It is unknown whether the game will eventually end up supporting multiplayer gameplay, but it is not too far-fetched to think it will.
A bunch of titles in
The Legend of Zelda series have focused around co-operative gameplay, although
Link's Awakening was not developed with multiplayer in mind. If the Nintendo Switch version were to include co-operative mode, it'll likely be in the form of a brand-new mode, or maybe even minigames. We'll just have to wait and see, although the idea of
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening featuring multiplayer sure is an interesting one.
Originally released for the Game Boy™ system more than 25 years ago, one of the most beloved games in the Legend of Zelda series returns. In this modern re-imagining, players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
