Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game by defunct developer Team Silent and published by Konami that was released all the way back in 2001 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game was re-released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of the
Silent Hill HD Collection.
Now, almost 18 years after the game's initial release, an avid player has found two incredibly well-hidden secrets in Silent Hill 2. As reported by
Kotaku,
Twitter user punk7890 found a way to toggle on four mini map types that show up on the top right corner of the screen. This is activated by inputting a complex set of button combos, although there are certain conditions that must be met in order for this to work.
Players, in order to pull off this secret, need to have beaten the game and got the
Dog Ending. Controller type has to be set to 2 and players have to be playing on the international version of the game. If these conditions are met, players need to input the following combination(while they are in control of the character) to toggle on the mini map:
Start + L2 + Square + L3. In order for this to work, is best that players first go to the inventory menu screen and exit by pressing Start and then, while still holding the Start button, input the rest of the code.
The second hidden secret is a Save mode that allows players to save their progress any time they want, althoug hit does require a more complex button combination than the one needed for the map. Once in control of the characters, players need to input the following sequence:
D-Pad Left + Left Analog Stick Left + Right Analog Stick Left + L2 + L1 + L3.
It is pretty neat that secrets like these can still be found in games that most people don't even play any more, making it a perfect opportunity for players to jump right back in and get these classics a try and see what else they can find.
