Following the fall of the original THQ and
Amsterdam 1666 in 2013, Patrice Désilets, the man who directed
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and
Assassin's Creed, has decided to establish his own studio, Panache, which is creating prehistoric survival game
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
While
Ancestors hasn't even hit stores yet, Désilets is already thinking about his next moves – and it looks like
Amsterdam 1666 will be his new project after the works on Panache's first game are finished.
In an interview with VG247, Désilets revealed that "
Amsterdam 1666 is gonna happen.” Considering that
1666 was originally set to launch for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the studio would definitely need to slightly modernize the game's mechanics to match today's standards, – but it seems that Désilets understands that situation. “
Now I am thinking about it a little bit. It’ll probably change a little bit,” Désilets explained. “
You were more like the devil’s apprentice than the actual devil. Once I finish this [Ancestors] and then, ‘Okay what’s next?’ If it’s Amsterdam 1666, I’ll probably restart from scratch.”
Originally in development at THQ Montréal,
1666 was canceled shortly after Ubisoft acquired the studio and subsequently fired Désilets in 2010. Almost exactly two years ago, Désilets proudly announced he had acquired the rights to the property as part of an agreement with the French publisher. In the meantime, be sure to take a closer look at Désilets' all-new video game down below:
Embark on the most incredible odyssey known to humankind: human evolution. Spanning from 10 million to 2 million years ago, begin your journey, “Before Us,” in Neogene period Africa. Explore a beautiful yet ruthless world, from swinging through tree branches in the jungle to stalking prey across the golden savannah grasslands. Decide what attributes to learn and hone in order to pass down knowledge to future generations, from crafting tools to enhancing evasive tactics against predators. Just like real life, make sure to eat, drink, and sleep to stay alive and have the energy to face any danger that may come your way.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is coming in 2019 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
