Banjo and Kazooie, from Rare's iconic and long-neglected
Banjo-Kazooie series, were finally revealed to be joining the roster of Nintendo's
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — as probably one of the most unexpected announcements for the critically acclaimed crossover fighting series.
With all the attention the
Banjo-Kazooie characters have been getting, some hardcore fans of the series have begun speculating whether there's the possibility that Microsoft and Rare could finally make the long-awaited
Banjo-Kazooie 3; with the last entry in the core series,
Banjo-Tooie, being released in November of 2000.
Banjo-Kazooie series Composer, Grant Kirkhope, doesn't think that the attention the characters have been getting as of late guarantees a new game, however, revealing that Rare already has their hands busy with other projects like the ambitious
Sea of Thieves.
"
My honest opinion is I don’t know if they’ll ever be a new Banjo. It’s easy to go, ‘look at these numbers’, but it might be a drop in the ocean for Xbox," explained Kirkhope while also adding that a brand-new Banjo-Kazooie title may not be in Rare's best interests right now.
"
Is there a market for it? I just don’t know. I would think that Rare probably doesn’t have the appetite for it. They’re super busy with Sea of Thieves and that’s a gigantic game: it’s going to take the whole studio to keep making content for that."
"
Maybe the E3 reception has made Microsoft think about it. But the trouble is, if I say anything more definitive than that then the fans will think I’m in the know! When really, I’m just a composer," added Kirkhope.
Grant Kirkhope has composed the soudntracks for numerous Rare-developed titles, so if there's anyone who would know if there's a bew
Banjo-Kazooie game in the works, he would defiitely know about it; at the moment, however, there just isn't one being developed.
Maybe Microsoft and Rare could consider bringing back the series to life, but until then it is best not to hold our breaths waiting for a new
Banjo-Kazooie to be made. In the meantime, fans will get their chance to play as the iconic duo when they become available on
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at some point
this Fall.
