Metroid Prime 4 has been in quite the predicament for quite some time now. The game was initially revealed during the E3 2017 event, and was officially delayed in January of 2019. When the game was delayed, Nintendo also revealed that Retro Studios was being brought back to develop the game; a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
Retro Studios was the developer that had worked on all of the previous entries in the Metroid Prime series, so this was widely considered to be great news. Unfortunately, bringing the studio back also meant that the project was being developed from scratch all over again.
We've barely had any news about Metroid Prime 4 since the game was officially delayed and Retro Studios took over the project, but there have some news that have been able to give fans a rough idea of what's going on behind the scenes in terms of development.
The latest bit of information has revealed that VFX artists Adad Morales, Bryan Erck, and Nicholas Wilson — who have previously worked on series like Battlefield, Star Wars, Borderlands, and Tomb Raider series — have joined Retro Studios and will be working on the project.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, Morales(Battlefield, Star Wars) has been hired as the lead VFX artist for Metroid Prime 4, while Erck and Wilson — Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Borderlands series, respectively — have joined Retro Studios as Senior VFX artists.
Adad Morales, Bryan Erck, and Nicholas Wilson will be joining Super Lucky's Tale and Crysis 3 designers Mark Capers and James Beech — who were reported to have joined the Metroid Prime 4 project in February of this year.
Hopefully we will be hearing more official news about the project itself soon, but it is reassuring to see that Retro Studios is looking for such talented developers to work on Metroid Prime 4. This, however, also reveals that the project is still in very early stages of development, but at least things are already moving forward.
