The Avengers Project is was officially announced in January of 2017. The teaser was quite literally a teaser, showing absolutely none of the characters, no gameplay, and no concept other than the game will be featuring characters from the Marvel universe—particularly the Avengers.
Since the announcement, the project went completely dormant and we got little to no information from either Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics(the studio developing
The Avengers Project) leading a lot of people to believe the game was simply cancelled.
Today we got some news regarding the project as Crystal Dynamics announces that they will be opening the Crystal Northwest studio —based in Bellevue, Washington—that will exclusively focus on Marvel and Square Enix's highly anticipated
The Avengers Project.
As per the announcement, Crystal Dynamics stated that they are "
aggressively scaling up our teams and adding a new studio with spectacular talent to deliver the ultimate gaming experiences for our players. We have assembled a team of industry veterans and leaders in order to create gaming experiences that surpass the expectations of our passionate community".
Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Crystal Dynamics, mentioned that this new studio will be focusing exclusively on bringing life to The Avengers Project, finally giving fans the kind of news they've been wanting to hear pretty much since the announcement back in January of 2017.
"Our new studio in Bellevue, and the new hires in Redwood Shores, represent our continued commitment to the most ambitious project we’ve ever created. We’ll keep building on the exciting growth Crystal Dynamics has experienced over the last several years, and are eager to deliver a world-class Avengers experience for fans around the world", explained Rosenberg.
After all this time, it's great to finally get some new information regarding the project—especially since we didn't even know if there was still a project in the works or not. While we still don't know what the game will be about, Crystal Dynamics have made a name for themselves with their Tomb Raider series—including the series' reboot in 2013—so it is safe to assume The Avengers Project will also end up being a quality product and we cannot wait for more news about it.
A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.
