Today Google unveiled their new streaming gaming platform called Stadia, which they described as their vision for the future of games.
Stadia is not a gaming console, however, and players will have access to the games via their internet connection like they would access other streaming services like Hulu or Netflix, and using whatever device they have to browse the web; be it a mobile device or computer.
In the presentation, they showed how
Assassin's Creed Odyssey worked on a laptop, mobile device, and low-spec computer(or at least that's what they said it was), and the game was actually able to run at a stable 60fps.
According to Phil Harrison, who is the Vice President of Google, Stadia is looking to connect those who like watching gaming content, and the ones actually playing the games; as they attempt to connect game developers with players and YouTube creators.
Perhaps the only caveat to this new Stadia streaming service is that it obviously requires a high speed internet connection, and these kind of connections are far from being the standard amongst users.
Google also revealed that players who already own other gaming consoles will be able to use their controllers to play the games on Stadia.
However, Google also revealed their Stadia Controller as the newest member of the Google Hardware Family — which connects to the devices via WiFi and includes some standard features like a pause and select buttons, and two more important ones such as the capture button and Google Assistant button.
