Let's get this out of the way right now: the
Mega Man X series has been dead for a solid 14 years since
Mega Man X8 was released all the way back in 2004—leaving fans clamouring for a sequel ever since. Unlike the origial
Mega Man series—that also saw a couple a long hiatuses—the X series has been completely neglected, to the point fans thought Capcom had simply given up. Luckily, a new
Mega Man title was announced, making fans of the Blue Bomber excited for the new game, as well as getting their hopes up waiting for a
Mega Man X9 to be announced.
Mega Man 11 was teased in
Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, where there was some never-before-seen concept art that wasn't from the original games, but from the new game all along. Now, Capcom seems to be doing the same with the
Mega Man X Legacy Collection.
As reported by Destruction, via a tweet from user Guutara,
Mega Man X9 is being hinted at by Capcom in the official
Mega Man X Legacy Collection, which is currently hitting shelves in Japan. The soundtrack's booklet has something that reads "
the story of X's fight is not over yet", right after the description for
Mega Man X8. On an even more similar note, Capcom had already done this in the Mega Man 20th Anniversary book—which was hinting at
Mega Man 9 at the time—with something that reads "
the legend is not yet complete".
Given Capcom's history of teasing
Mega Man titles, it is pretty much safe to say that they are working on a new
Mega Man X title. If we go by the concept art found in
Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 and
Mega Man 11's announcement, maybe we could be getting a
Mega Man X9 announcement before the end of the year. Perhaps even a
Mega Man X9 release by the end of this year—especially since they are still celebrating Mega Man's 30th Anniversary.
Hopefully that is the case and we can finally get a proper sequel—Capcom leaving us waiting for 14 years has to pay off sometime and now it's the time. In the meantime, we can quench that thirst for
Mega Man X games when the
Mega Man X Legacy Collection arrives in a couple of days on the
24th of July.
