When Capcom released the official announcement trailer for Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, they wrapped up the trailer by showing off the new Z Chaser Mode, which is a mode in which players race an opponent in split-screen.

This new Z Chaser Mode is actually something that is quite new to the series, as Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is the first game to implement such a mode, and Kazuhiro Tsuchiya — who is the game's producer — has recently revealed some interesting details about this new mode.

According to Tsuchiya, they were actually inspired by a speedrun tournament the developers saw on YouTube, which eventually led to them considering adding it to this upcoming collection.

"In the midst of brainstorming new game mode ideas," explains Tsuchiya, "we saw a video of a Mega Man speed run tournament on YouTube. When we saw the participants’ serious expressions and their passionate fans supporting them, we wondered if there was a way to recreate this type of excitement for people at home".

"That’s how Z Chaser Mode was born. If you have two controllers handy, you can play this mode locally against your friends. Call them over, go head to head, and see who comes out on top."

The speedrun community actually have come up with some interesting ways to beat not just games in the Mega Man series, but in pretty much every video game series imaginable. If you have the chance to check out any Mega Man-focused speedruns, be sure to check out those races between speedrunners. They're definitely worth the watch.
