So, just yesterday Nintendo announced that they would be adding three more games to the Nintendo Switch Online NES feature; with these games being
Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels,
Star Soldier, and
Punch Out!!.
What's interesting about this, is that
Punch Out!! isn't the original version released on the NES lo those years ago, but a slightly newer edition that didn't feature Mike Tyson as the final boss. The original game was actually titled
Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!, which was released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Today, Mike Tyson has shared his opinion about Nintendo making the a new
Punch Out!! game — or like he himself said: "
doing the new 'Punch Out' without even contacting me", claiming that the game "
wont be the same. my knockouts made the game. thats whack".
The thing here is that Nintendo isn't really making a new
Punch Out!! title, but Tyson is right about one thing: the
Punch Out!! released on the Nintendo Switch Online isn't the same game he was in back in the 80s — as the new edition of the game featured a different boss named Mr. Dream.
Mr. Dream was the new final boss for the original
Punch Out!!, who had to be used in order to replace Tyson once the license to use Mike Tyson had expired; with Iron Mike never making an appearance in the
Punch Out!! series since.
It would be great if Nintendo and Mike Tyson could strike a deal and manage to have the heavyweight champion making an appearance in future
Punch Out!! games if Nintendo were to make one. That said, it's best not to hold our breaths, since the last title in the
Punch Out!! series was released for the Wii in 2009, and Nintendo doesn't seem to want to bring the series back any time soon.
