Mortal Kombat series Co-creator Ed Boon is very well known for teasing fans on social media. It isn't the fact that he's deliberately teasing people, but the fact that he just posts whatever comes to his mind — which is often misinterpreted by fans, and made into a tease about something he never even intended to tease.
Here's the thing with Boon's unintentional/intentional teases; when he does tease an announcement, he tends to drag it out for way too long. While some may be annoyed by this, it actually helps build up anticipation. The problem with setting expectations too high, is that the actual reveal may end up disappointing fans.
With that said, Boon knows how to deliver the goods — more often than not — and it seems like the next announcement could be a big one; evidence seems to support this, since we may soon be getting news about Mortal Kombat 11, or even the rumoured Injustice 3.
Let's get this out of the way first: Ed Boon has recently said that he sees a tease in our future. This was posted on his Twitter account without any further context, so of course fans believe that it could be an announcement in regards to Mortal Kombat 11 or Injustice 3.
Fans of the Mortal Kombat series won't stop pestering Boon for Mileena as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11. While chances of the iconic, beloved character being added to the game are rather slim, any other character being announced is more than plausible.
For context, Boon is getting really tired of the character-begging on social media, and it only takes a quick glance at the comment section under his tweets to see that 90% of them are begging for Mileena to be added; be it as a legitimate request, or simply as trolling.
Now, here's where things get more interesting. A Mortal Kombat 11 announcement is very possible, but Boon wouldn't tease/troll players like that. No, he knows that everyone wants to know more about the rumoured Injustice 3; a game that has been heavily teased by Boon to the point it almost feels as if the game has already been unofficially confirmed by him.
It was initially believed that Boon could officially announce Injustice 3 during the DCFandome event, although this wasn't the case, since he only attended the event as a fan. BossLogic also added fuel to the rumour, by sharing two posters for the unannounced title, and tagging Boon on social media; a tweet Boon, of course, retweeted.
Injustice 3 not being revealed during DCFandome was definitely a disappointment, but knowing Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios, it is fair to assume that they're building up expectations for a massive reveal. What will Boon tease? That's anybody's guess, but most people's money is on Injustice 3 rather than another character for Mortal Kombat 11. Fingers crossed.
