Following the absolute collapse of
OVERKILL's The Walking Dead, selling back the publishing rights to OtherSide's
System Shock 3, and the Swedish studio’s CEO Bo Andersson Klint's resignation, Starbreeze has announced that it doesn't have any chances to last out more than 12 months in its current form.
While the situation is grim, a recent statement from acting CEO Mikael Nermark suggests that there's still hope for Starbreeze. "
My main task is to secure financing for the company’s future operations," Nermark explained in a quarterly shareholder report. "
This involves both long-term financing we can use to build the Starbreeze of the future, but also making sure that the assets we have determined are unrelated to the core business are managed in a commercially viable way. Once this financing has been secured, we will be able to look ahead and present a more detailed strategy for the future."
Furthermore, Starbreeze's golden goose
Payday 2 is still doing well, with the development team trying to restructure the title and its current monetization model. As a reminder,
Payday 3 is still in the works.
While Starbreeze is facing financial issues, the studio will still publish Double Fine’s
Psychonauts 2.
PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew - Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains - as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree. The new CRIMENET network offers a huge range of dynamic contracts, and players are free to choose anything from small-time convenience store hits or kidnappings, to big league cyber-crime or emptying out major bank vaults for that epic PAYDAY. While in DC, why not participate in the local community, and run a few political errands?
Payday 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One & Nintendo Switch NOW!
