Octopath Traveler is one of those role-playing games that embrace the classic 16-Bit art style of, well, games from the 16-Bit era, while also embracing current gen graphics in order to make backgrounds and battles look flashy and stand out more in stylish fashion.
Released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in July of this year, Square Enix's
Octopath Traveler was a love letter to fans of the genre, which is exactly what made the game
sell over 1 million copies in less than a month since its launch.
Good news didn't stop there, since Square Enix also confirmed that fans
should expect more titles like Octopath Traveler to be revealed in the future, for either the Nintendo Switch or other consoles if they deem appropriate.
During a recent interview with
4Gamer, translated by
Gematsu,
Octopath Traveler Game Director Keisuke Miyauchi has recently revealed that 2019 will be a year of preparation for them. While he didn't really have any announcements to make, he did make sure to let know players that they will be getting ready and that fans should look forward to future announcements.
"
Since it seems that 2019 will be a year of preparation, I don’t have anything to say yet… We’ll emerge again after a while, so I hope that everybody can look forward to it when the time comes".
While the statement may be vague, fans can rest assured that they will be seeing more titles like
Octopath Traveler in the future, they just have to wait for that almost inevitable announcement by Square Enix.
Eight travelers. Eight adventures. Eight roles to play in a new world brought to life by Square Enix. Explore each traveler’s story and use their abilities in and out of battle. Will you expand your horizons as the Merchant or track down a traitor as the Warrior? Where will you go? Who will join you? You alone can choose your path.
Octopath Traveler is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
