Earlier today, General Manager of Development Division at Nintendo, Shinya Takahashi, updated us on the current state of
Metroid Prime 4; stating that the project is currently being delayed, and everything that they had work on ever since has been scrapped in order to start again from scratch.
Takahashi also revealed that the project will now be completely developed by Retro Studios, who weren't involved in the development of
Metroid Prime 4 but had developed all of the previous titles in the
Metroid Prime series.
The thing about Retro Studios is that the reason why they were not working on
Metroid Prime 4 is because they had been working on a new game since 2015.
At the time, people thought this new game was a new entry in the
Metroid Prime series but, when
Metroid Prime 4 was actually revealed, it turned out that this wasn't the case. Now that we know that
Metroid Prime 4 will be developed by Retro Studios, what about the other game they were working on?
Art Director at Defiant Studios and former Retro Studios employee, Eric Kozlowsky, believes that the game he had been working on at Retro Studios since 2015 may have been cancelled. The reason why he believes this is the case is because Retro Studios is a one-game studio, meaning that all of their focus has always gone into working on just the one game.
If Retro Studios has, indeed, grown a two-game studio like Kozkowsky suggests, then the secret project Retro was working on before deciding to work on
Metroid Prime 4 is still alive and kicking. We still don't know what that mysterious project ws but fans have come to the conclusion that it could've been a new
Donkey Kong Country game. We'll just have to wait and see if Retro Studios updates us on that mystery project, unless it's actually been cancelled.
