Riot Games has officially unveiled the title for its upcoming League of Legends-inspired trading card game (TCG), previously known as Project K. The game will now be called Riftbound, as announced in a new teaser video released today on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. Watch the video below:
Riftbound marks Riot’s latest foray into the world of physical tabletop gaming, drawing from the rich lore and champion roster of the League of Legends universe. Originally announced in December 2023 under the codename Project K, the game has since undergone significant development and playtesting. According to Game Director Dave Guskin and Executive Producer Chengran Chai, the team has been hard at work integrating feedback from early testers and refining the gameplay experience.
The developers revealed that Riftbound will support several formats, including 1v1 and 2v2 battles, as well as free-for-all modes that should appeal to a variety of players all the way from hardcore competitors to casual fans. The first full set, titled Origins, features over 300 cards, including Unit, Spell, and Legend cards. Some Legend cards will even have rare secret variants with exclusive artwork. Players can expect to see familiar League of Legends champions such as Jinx, Viktor, Yasuo, and Lee Sin featured in this debut collection.
In addition to Origins, Riftbound will also launch with a separate entry-level set called Proving Grounds. Designed for new players or casual players and those unfamiliar with trading card games, Proving Grounds is a boxed product that includes decks based on beginner-friendly champions like Annie, Garen, Lux, and Master Yi. The product is tailored for two to four players, making it an easy way to introduce friends to the game’s mechanics and style.
Riot also confirmed that Riftbound will officially launch in China during the summer of 2025, with releases in other regions, including English-speaking countries, following later in the year. Additional global rollouts are planned for 2026.
The game will also appear at upcoming Riot-hosted and tabletop gaming events throughout the year, offering fans more opportunities to try it firsthand. Riot encourages players to follow Riftbound on social media and check out its new official website for updates.
To ensure smooth publishing and distribution, Riot has partnered with UVS Games, an experienced company with over 17 years in the tabletop gaming space. UVS will handle global logistics for Riftbound as Riot prepares to make its mark in the physical TCG arena.
