If you have not heard about Ubisoft's Skull & Bones, don't worry, since many other players are in the same boat. This new intellectual property was announced during E3 back in 2017, and the game was initially expected to relese at some point in 2018.

Ubisoft has since delayed the game every year, and Skull & Bones was nowhere to be seen during yesterday's Ubisoft Forward event. The continous delays have led people to believe that Ubisoft may not know exactly what to do with this franchise and, to be quite objective, it never really seemed like there was a solid idea.

Skull & Bones is a game that was borrowing ideas from the fan-favourite Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, although the focus of this new IP was not on story, unlike the Assassin's Creed series, but on multiplayer and PVP gameplay; not a bad thing, but not a story driven game like players initially believed.

Video Games Chronicles reports that Ubisoft may have decided to give Skull & Bones a reboot, as they rethink what they want this new game to be. This information comes from anonymous sources that seem to be part of the game's development; however, it is still worth taking this information with a grain of salt.

According to VGC's sources, Skull & Bones has now moved towards a "live" game model, and that the game will now be featuring quests, characters, and even storylines that will be changing over time; all of these based on the actions of the game's community, no less.

Sources also claim that "social and live storytelling" elements being added to Skull & Bones have been inspired by Epic Games' Fortnite, although Ubisoft's new intellectual property aims to focus on collaboration; looking to appeal to demographics other than the "competitive action" titles fans tend to play.

Here's where things get even more interesting, as sources have also claimed that Skull & Bones Creative Director Justin Farren would've left the project, and has since been replaced by former VP Editorial Elisabeth Pellen. Again, take this information with a pinch of salt.

It is the Golden Age of Piracy. Renegade captains command the most powerful weapons on Earth: warships. You are a pirate captain who has refused the king’s pardon and sailed from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, an untamed frontier full of lavish riches. However, these waters are also a battleground where far-reaching colonial empires, powerful trading corporations, and ruthless pirate gangs clash.

Skull & Bones still doesn't have an official release date.
