At the end of March,
Sega officially revealed that they were, indeed, working on a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini; a console that aims to bring back the glory of the 16-Bit era for players to enjoy one more time.
One of the best news we could've gotten, besides the fact that they were actually working on this retro console, was that Sega themselves were working on it, instead of handing over the project to AtGames — who have manufactured classic Sega consoles in the past; getting a lot of criticism due to the poor job they have done in regards to the emulation itself.
Alongside the announcement, Sega also revealed that the Sega Genesis.Mega Drive would be featuring a total of 40 classic titles; with heavy hitters such as
Altered Beast,
Castlevania Bloodlines, and the original
Sonic the Hedgehog being some of them.
Recently, the official website for the anticipated mini console has been updated — revealing that the next 10 titles to be added to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini are
Castle of Illusion,
Contra Hard Corps,
Earthworm Jim,
Landstalker,
Streets of Rage 2,
Shinobi III,
Sonic the Hedgehog 2,
Super Fantasy Zone,
Thunder Force III, and
World of Illusion.
So far, and with the first 20 games having been revealed, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini is already worth your money, as Sega has really brought in some of the best titles in the console. At this point, whatever games they reveal in the coming months, will just be the cherry on top of this already delicious 16-Bit era cake.
The iconic SEGA Genesis console returns in a slick, miniaturized form along with two classic 3-button control pads.Made by SEGA, Genesis Mini delivers quality as only a 1st party product can.
The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini will become available on the 19th of September.
