Yesterday we found out that
Shenmue 3 would no longer be coming out this 2018, to the surprise of many, and was being delayed to 2019. While the game has already been pushed back a few times in the past, since its initial announcement back in 2015, it is still a bit of a disappointment that the game is taking this long.
The reasoning behind the delay is because the developers deemed necessary to polish the game so it can be held to a higher standard. This information was posted on the official
Deep Silver site, and today we found out that this was actually coming from a THQ Nordic financial presentation that took place yesterday.
Today we got some more information on the current state of
Shenmue 3, as well as some of the game's plot, and some unseen footage from the game's first teaser. While it may not be enough to quench that thirst for a bigger announcement, we at least know that they are trying to make the game a memorable one. Hopefully they are able to deliver on their promise and end up releasing the game in 2019 without delaying it any more.
The HD remasters for
Shenmue I and
Shenmue II have not been pushed back and will be coming out this year, so it's probably for the best that they pushed back
Shenmue 3 to 2019, given that it will allow players to rekindle their love for the franchise. This will also help introduce the game to newer generations that may not know anything about the
Shenmue series, so it is the perfect time for THQ Nordic to wait and see how things play out once the HD remasters are released.
The year is 1986, the place Yokosuka, Japan. The normally tranquil day-to-day life of Ryo Hazuki
is suddenly and irrecoverably shattered by uninvited visitors. A man wearing dark green Chinese clothes appears
at the Hazuki family home with two black-suited thugs. This man uses a powerful style of martial arts, the likes of which Ryo has never before seen, to engage his father Iwao in a fierce battle. Ryo attempts to intervene and help his father, but the obvious disparity in power is too much. Ryo is beaten down and taken hostage as the man questions Iwao, “Where is the mirror.”
Shenmue I and Shenmue II are expected to come out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2018.
