SNK has been really upping their game in the last few years, especially when it comes to catering to their long-time fans; who have been unconditionally supporting the company over the years.
Just last year the company was celebrating their 40th anniversary and releasing the
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for the Nintendo Switch(recently released for the PlayStation 4), as well as a plug-and-play
Neo Geo Mini that even looked like the classic
Neo Geo arcade cabinet.
It hasn't stopped there, since a few weeks ago SNK surprised their fans by revealing that
Samurai Shodown, their acclaimed sword-fighting video game series, was getting a reboot — which is expected to release home consoles and PC this June.
As if that wasn't enough, SNK has recently revealed, during an investors meeting that took place today in Seoul, that they have plans to develop a
Neo Geo 2 and even a
Neo Geo 3; bringing back the
Neo Geo line of consoles after over 20 years.
This comes as a result of the overwhelmingly positive reception the
Neo Geo Mini had amongst consumers, which made SNK consider the possibility of making a new console. They were also very clear on the fact that the
Neo Geo 2 and
Neo Geo 3 will not be successors to the
Neo Geo Mini, but to the original console from the early 90s.
SNK reveals that the
Neo Geo 2 will be a "semi-open platform", which means that the console will likely include pre-loaded games but will also get physical releases. As far as specs and release dates go, we still don't have any details but it is likely that more information will be revealed in June during this year's E3. Regardless, this is very exciting news for SNK fans and players in general.
