SNK is celebrating the 40th anniversary this year and has planned a few interesting releases in the upcoming months. Among these, there is an announcement for the
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection , which will include 40 classic titles from SNK, a
Limited Edition for the SNK collection, and an announcement that a Neo Geo console was on the way.
The look, and some of the features of the Neo Geo Mini were
leaked last week by an anonymous source but we didn't really have any confirmation about them being real until yesterday when SNK finally revealed the console.
The SNK Neo Geo Mini has been finally, and officially, revealed by SNK and it looks very similar to the leaks from last week. Now we got a bit more information on the console, some of the games it will include, and the two versions of the console that will be released.
As reported by
Polygon, the Neo Geo Mini "fits perfectly in the palm of one's hand" and will include a 3.5" display. It is 135mm wide by 108mm deep, and weighs 600gr, which translates to 5.25" by 4.25", and 1.3 pounds in weight. There will also be two different versions available. The prominently red version will be sold in Asia, while the grey one is the version that will be sold internationally.
The system includes one HDMI port to be connected to the TV, headphone jack, and two external controller ports. Much like the
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, the Neo Geo Mini will also come with a selection of 40 SNK titles, but none of them have been confirmed, as of yet. If we go by the pictures, the titles featured on the consoles are
Metal Slug,
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2,
Samurai Shodown 2, and
The King of Fighters '97 and
'98.
While the price, and release date were not announced, both versions of the Neo Geo Mini look simply beautiful and we can't wait for more details to be revealed.
