To the surprise of many, Nintendo announced — during their Nintendo Direct presentation in February — that they were remaking
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening — which is probably one of the most underrated titles in the whole series; mainly due to how inaccessible it is these days.
The original game was released for the Game Boy in 1993, and got somewhat of a remaster a few years later; but nothing as major as what Nintendo are doing now with this remake for the Nintendo Switch.
It turns out that some fans have taken to themselves to make their own remastered version of the game by using assets from
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which came out for the Super Nintendo and used 16-Bit pixel art, as well as a top-down perspective that was, at the time, the norm for games in the
Zelda series.
This project is being developed by Zelda Force, who have been recreating all of the classic locations from
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening's Koholint Island.
Nintendo isn't very kind when it comes to these type of projects, since they like to handle their intellectual properties themselves(which makes a lot of sense) so it is unlikely that this project will manage to stay afloat for too long; especially now that Nintendo has officially announced their own version of the classic Game Boy title.
