Sonic Mania is arguably one of, if not, the best games in the
Sonic the Hedgehog series, which was actually developed by Christian Whitehead; an independent programmer known for porting several
Sonic games in the past, as well as his
Retro Sonic fan game.
The game even got an expansion in the form of
Sonic Mania Plus, which brought back Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo with an adventure of their own for the first time in a Sonic game; both of which had been missing in action since the early 90s.
Perhaps one of the most interesting things to come out of the excellent Sonic Mania was a mini series of 5 short animated videos titled Sonic Mania Adventures—which follows the events of Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus by introducing Mighty and Ray.
The
Sonic Mania Adventures episodes were released monthly; with the last episode being released on YouTube in July of this year, with the thrilling conclusion that pitted Sonic, Tails, Mighty, and Ray against Metal Sonic.
Today Sega has surprised us with some fantastic news as they have officially announced that
Sonic Mania Adventures will be making a return, and episode 6 will actually be releasing tomorrow—and it seems like it will be a Christmas episode, no less.
After the amazingly positive reception that
Sonic Mania Adventures had when it first released, it was only a matter of time until Sega decided to move forward with a Season 2, and fans finally got their wish granted. Good on you, Sega.
