Square Enix has announced the establishment of Tokyo-based studio called Luminous Productions. The developer will be led by Hajime Tabata who directed and produced Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. It looks like the financial successes of his games and creating some weird VR apps (including fishing with FF XV's Noctis) paid off and the publisher gave him a chance to steer the new studio.

Luminous Production is focused on "developing new AAA titles, and bringing innovative games and other entertainment content to a global audience," and plans to "utilize innovative technology and creativity to change the future of gaming and entertainment,” as the official statement reads.

The studio is staffed with members of the creative team behind Final Fantasy XV. We should expect an announcement regarding what the new project for the team will be in mid-2018.
