Activision and Respawn's
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order may end up becoming the
Star Wars game that fans have been wanting, as it is finally a single-player experience that won't be shoving microtransactions and lootboxes down the players' throats.
Fans have also taken comfort in the fact that
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a game that is 100% being developed by Respawn Entertainment, who have delivered
Titanfall and
Titanfall 2, as well as
Apex Legends to players; all of which have been well-received by the video game community.
It seems that
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will give even more reasons to fans to get excited about, since an interview with EDGE magazine has revealed that the people over at Respawn Interactive seem to have taken inspiration from FromSoftware's acclaimed
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
"
I thought it was pretty badass, and a little comforting to know that you could make this type of game[Sekiro] without a stamina bar. They let you attack, they let you roll, they do all this for free – and then the AI will tell you if you’re doing the correct thing," explained Lead Combat Designer Jason de Heras, as he adds that the game confirmed to them that "
you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar."
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Director, Stig Asmussen, has also made vocal the fact that he has drawn inspiration from the developers of
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — to the point of outing himself as a fan of FromSoftware.
"
I’ve been a huge FromSoftware fan since King’s Field. I mean, King’s Field II is one of my favourite games ever. But it’s not about you liking a game, and trying to make that game yourself. It’s more, ’What can we learn about what’s fun about it?'"
While
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order isn't a
Souls-type of game, it is interesting to know that the developers at Respawn Interactive have drawn inspiration from titles like
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice; this coupled with the fact that they have obviously
drawn inspiration from previous Star Wars titles is enough to make fans excited for the upcoming game.
