For those who still have not had the chance to play Respawn Entertainment's
Star Wars jedi: Fallen Order, there may be some spoilers ahead. If you have already played the game, and also happen to be a
Star Wars fan, you'll probably love this tie-in with the
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.
Now that you have been warned about potential spoilers, let's jump right into it. So, for those who've player
Fallen Order, you may remember that the Ilum planet where Cal travels to find some kyber crystals looked oddly familiar. So much so, in fact, that fans theorised that this planet had something to do with the Starkiller base seen in
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
Well, it turns out that said theory was actually correct, as the
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary has confirmed that Starkiller base is, indeed, the same planet that showed up in
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order; a planet that the
First Order completely modified for their sinister plans.
As per the visual dictionary, the planet's description reads as follows:
Properly energized, kyber crystals create containment fields that hold and amplify power to incredible levels. The Empire controlled several kyber-rich worlds, funneling their resources into the Tarkin Initiative's Death Star development. One unique world in the Unknown regions, Ilum, had a kyber crystalline core. Most of its more easily accessible deposits were scoured, but there were even larger crystals buried deeper beneath the surface. The First Order continued its excavations and gradually transformed Ilum - a revered Jedi world since antiquity - into an instrument of unfathomable destruction.
So, there you have it: Ilum's gigantic kyber crystals are actually what powers the lasers that come out of the Starkiller base in
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens; meaning that those lasers are actually giant-sized lightsaber beams.
What's even more interesting is that this information reveals that
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's Ilum planet was the source of the original Death Star's power, which also confirms that the Death Star ray was produced by the same type of kyber crystals that power up lightsabers.
