One of the things that many fans noticed when
Streets of Rage 4 was announced, was the game's phenomenal new hand-drawn art style — which fits the beat 'em up series almost too perfectly. The announcement trailer may have only been more of a teaser, but it was enough to get fans of the series excited for this new entry.
The studio behind the game's art style is Lizardcube, which is actually the same studio that worked on the remastered
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap; also a game with a phenomenal art style that looks like it was an animated cartoon. Needless to say, Lizardcube has a very talented group of artists.
Today, Dotemu has shared a new behind the scenes video for
Streets of Rage 4, which introduces us to Art and Creative Director Ben Fiquet and Lead background Artist Julian Nguyen-You — who reveal some very interesting details about why they chose that art style, and how they managed to keep the same aesthetic while also reinventing it.

Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.
Streets of Rage 4 will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One in the first half of 2020.
